ABSTRACT
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a key to achieving carbon neutrality (CN) by 2050. The saline aquifer in the coastal area to the west of Taiwan was proved to show a large potential for CO2 storage with a full capacity of around 40 Gt of CO2. A Reservoir Simulation was conducted to provide potential storage site information onshore and offshore of Taichung, where the largest coal-fired power plant in Taiwan is located. Before a CCTS (Carbon Capture Transportation and Storage) supply chain is developed, an analysis should be conducted to understand the potential alternative life cycle impacts of the CO2 storage process either onshore or offshore. Capital Cost Analysis was also evaluated based on the depth corresponding to the offshore distance in the geological database. In the future, the goal is to conduct a CCTS network optimization considering the limitations discovered in the analysis. Challenges of conducting research regarding CCTS network will be discussed in this study and it can be served as a foundation for further development.
