This talk explores the complexities of rainfall variability in Sri Lanka, highlighting the influence of monsoon patterns ,and the roles of ENSO (El Niño-Southern Oscillation) and MJO (Madden-Julian Oscillation). Using the May 2016 flood as a case study, it explores mesoscale processes behind extreme events and their impacts. The goal is to enhance understanding for better agriculture, water management, and disaster preparedness in South Asia.
